There are safety and healthy rules governing the use of forklift trucks. Any large machinery, such as a forklift, is potentially dangerous and should be utilized safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver needs to carry out daily checks on the forklift and more thorough inspections each and every week and on a monthly basis. The following checks should be done on the forklift:
Forklift Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are important features that should be double and triple checked. A brake check is performed with different pedal heights and pressures to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be checked at the same time.
The Tires - forklift tires are also key for the safe functioning of the lift truck and to the braking system. All the tires must be checked correctly to ensure that there are no punctures in the tires and they are inflated to the proper pressure.
Controller - To determine whether the system is in good working condition, the forklift controller system needs to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any hint of issues must immediately reported and tended to. The lift truck should not be used until the controller system has been repaired.
Steering Wheel - the operator should inspect the forklift steering wheel to make sure the turning of the wheel is right. Forklift safety depends upon the steering wheel responding well and working precisely. There are different types of checks which could be carried out to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the Removing the oil dip stick from the engine with help determine if the engine requires oil. The dipstick would show the oil color and the level of the oil. The oil must be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there could be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - lift trucks are required by law to carry a fire extinguisher. This fire extinguisher would have to be tested to ensure it will function properly in the event of a fire. Different types of fire extinguisher need to be inspected in specific ways. For example, a dry chemical extinguisher must be shaken.
