Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are connected to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces like pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator will have to move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus just operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is specifically made for surfaces which are not even. These models also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This specific unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machines. These machinery offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
