Lift Truck Tank Safety
The propane powered lift truck is amongst the most common types of lift trucks. These machines are powered by propane, which come with certain considerations which must be accounted for. It is important that PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is worn at all times so as to be safe.

PPE
Propane gas is very cold. Very cold in fact that contact to your skin can cause serious burns to occur. When you are exchanging the propane tank or re-fueling, be sure to put on goggles or a full face shield and thick gloves. PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is a requirement to be used on location in order to keep the operator as safe as possible. PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is a standard workplace requirement for the majority of companies utilizing this machinery and if the operator does not have the right items on, like a hardhat, safety goggles, steel-toe boots and so forth than she or he will be forbidden from utilizing the equipment.

Inspect the Valve
If you are in the process of exchanging the tank, be sure that the valve on the new tank is definitely turned off prior to connecting the fuel line. This is extremely essential because when you are inserting the fuel line into an open valve, you would release the propane gas. This situation can create a potentially dangerous condition.

Fire Extinguisher
One more important safety procedure to have implemented is to have a fire extinguisher close by when the tank is being changed or fuel is being added. Most businesses have fire extinguishers located next to the refueling station. It is better to have one nearby and not require it, than to require one and not have one nearby. Nearly all safety regulations require this is set up on location as well.

Secure the Tank
The majority of propane tanks are strapped firmly into place by some type of restraining device or strap. Be sure that this device is functioning correctly and properly utilized so that you can prevent the tank from shifting or falling, as this could also lead to a dangerous condition.
