Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to store supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck is available in quite a few models: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The most basic kind is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide under the pallet and move it to the right storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet deep.
Ideal for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is similar to the stand-up, is commonly used. This version consists of telescopic forks intended to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when one more pallet has to go into the same shelving section.
The added advantage of straddle reaches is that they could both slide beneath the pallet and grasp the sides too. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units can be accessed in multiple directions. This version is ideal in situations where goods would not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
In most warehouses, there are normally more than one kind of reach truck. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities utilize various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to utilize and can maximize available storage space while increasing productivity.
