Basic Kinds of Fuels Used for Forklifts
Forklifts, also known as powered lift trucks, are utilized to perform numerous tasks in construction, distribution and industrial environments. These heavy-duty equipment are designed to be reliable and tough so they can transport heavy objects in all different kinds of environments and conditions. Forklifts could operate on numerous kinds of fuels and thus able to adapt to many different work settings.

Electricity
Generating no emissions, the electric forklifts are really quiet and reliable. These units are powered by industrial-strength large batteries that are made to be able to be successfully recharged approximately 1500 times during their useful lifespan. As electric forklifts produce no exhaust fumes, it is oftentimes the machine of necessity and choice in areas which have limited ventilation. These forklifts require a charging place somewhere on the premises which is equipped with an emergency acid spill kit and eyewash station because of the batteries. For safety reasons, the charging area must be well ventilated.

Propane
The modern forklift usually utilizes liquid propane. Propane provides different benefits over electric and diesel models. For example, propane usually costs less compared to electricity. When recharging the battery, there is no need to remove the forklift from service.

Propane units also provide a much cleaner operation compared to forklifts which are powered by diesel. In the majority of instances, a propane forklift can be refueled by just changing out the propane tank which is empty with a new one which is full. Usually, an off-site supplier would re-fill the tanks. This ensures a fast, safe and easy re-fueling procedure.

Diesel and Gasoline
Diesel and gasoline forklifts could require more maintenance and produce a smelly exhaust. They have relatively high fuel costs too. As they have a useful and much longer lifespan, they are rather dependable compared to electric or propane models. Re-fueling requires a fuel supply on site that conforms to strict safety and health codes. Diesel and gas models are mostly used in outdoor applications on rough terrain, like in lumber yard environments or on construction sites.
